Biology is the highest-scoring subject in NEET. These are the chapters and topics that appear most frequently — master them first.
Genetics and Evolution
Genetics consistently contributes 5–8 questions every year. Topics like Mendelian genetics, chromosomal theory of inheritance, linkage and recombination, sex determination, and mutations are heavily tested. Evolution — including Darwin's theory, natural selection, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and human evolution — is another high-yield area. Together, these two chapters can account for 10–12 marks.
Plant Physiology
Photosynthesis, respiration in plants, plant growth and development, and mineral nutrition are consistently tested. The light and dark reactions of photosynthesis — including the Calvin cycle — are frequently asked. C3, C4, and CAM plants are another important topic. Understand the mechanism, not just the names, for this chapter.
Human Physiology
Digestion and absorption, breathing and gas exchange, body fluids and circulation, excretory products and their elimination, locomotion and movement, neural control and coordination, and chemical coordination and integration are all high-yield. This entire unit typically contributes 12–15 questions. NCERT diagrams in this section — especially the nephron, heart, and brain — are frequently asked.
Reproduction
Reproduction in organisms, sexual reproduction in flowering plants, human reproduction, and reproductive health together account for 8–10 questions. Gametogenesis, fertilisation, embryonic development, and contraception are commonly tested topics. Master the diagrams for the male and female reproductive systems.
Ecology
Organisms and populations, ecosystem, biodiversity and conservation, and environmental issues contribute 6–8 questions. Ecological pyramids, nutrient cycles, population growth models, biodiversity hotspots, and wildlife conservation strategies are all testable. This unit is relatively scoring if you read NCERT carefully.
